amid all the weird posts, this is something for both girls and guys to read and think about.

what's a modern girl gotta do? - NY times

really interesting. despite everything, things are exactly the same.

what is it about human beings that makes them want to blowup/destroy/annihilate themselves and others?

happy birthday netties! may golden monkfish dance in celebration of your 21st! =P

hmmz. finishing that last darn report that refuses to finish. my dad's coming down on thursday, something that proves to be interesting =) a weekend on the gold coast woot! i'd be more excited, but with the exams around the bend, it might not be the best thing.

oh and it's spring. like officially-in-sondha's-book. there are gorgeous flowers on ryo and dylan's walkway that waft heavely jasmine-esq perfume through the house. yummy. but it also brings hayfever. grrr. any one want to play ring-around-a-rosie? i'll sneeze enough for us all. promise

I must conquer my loneliness alone.
I must be happy with myself, or I have nothing to offer.
Two halves have little choice but to join;
and yes, they do make a whole.
But two wholes when they coincide . .
That is beauty. That is love.

it's been an interesting internet-free week. the thunderstorms running up and down Queensland have shorted the server in school so many time that i've just given up trying to connect to the interent from home. Also... the exams *stressstress*

i swear, the amount of work to be done in second sememster is... not immense, but taxing. also, 7s are really really illusive. what is it about my taste in majors that gets me into selective courses?!? only 5 international students get into speech a year. or so the UQ folklore goes. and law+accounts is a degree that singapore doesn't recognise. siiigh. i'm just worried.

nvm 24 more days to go and it'll all be over. right?

Saturday, October 22, 2005
i think everyone in singapore is familiar with Ocean's Gu Dan Bei Ban Qiu, but i'm listening to this other one by this girl singer (given to me by my soon-to-be-housemate from China, i don't have her name yet. the singer i mean, not my future housemate) and i think its... so sad. and sweet. and appropriate.

maybe i'm misinterpreting the words. but it's almost the same as oceans, but she also seems to be saying that she'll wait till one day he comes back to her, and for the day that he'll rely on her too? just food for thought.

i miss home so much sometimes.

4am physics thoughts

Thursday, October 20, 2005
it's funny how much i post when i'm studying, and how little i post when i have nothing to do. murphy's law : one's idleness is directly proportional to one's work.

kinda feeling... weird right now. lonely, but wanting to be left alone. tired, but not wanting to sleep. restless and frustrated. must be the exams.

i wanna move out.

exams

with only 32 study days until the exams, i'm starting to... not really panic, but just... get frantic? i am kinda sorta doing okay, i mean, i got a 10 for my mior essays so far, but still.. it's starting to wear me down? plus frictions in the house are getting worse. i mean, can you imagine having to buy your own set of cutlery cuz there is never any clean ones, and even the dirty ones are nowhere to be found? man i sound like a really bad episode of big brother.

*sniff* i also have a flu that will not go away. grrr. this after 4 trips to a doctor that takes 5 mins and 50 dollars to say "the tests are negative for everything, you shouldn't be sick. Get more rest." throat samples, blood tests, grrrr. oh well. i don't mind being sick, i just wish i would stop being sleepy in class. i swear, 3 hours of physics is bad enough, but when you're sleepy, i actually started to see three of my lecturer..... and i really don't wanna skip.

sleeping 6-midnight, and then studying till gym time is good. *ganbatte*

History of the Middle Finger

Tuesday, October 18, 2005
Giving the Finger

Before the Battle of Agincourt in 1415, the French, anticipating victory over the English, proposed to cut off the middle finger of all captured English soldiers. Without the middle finger it would be impossible to draw the renowned English longbow and therefore they would be incapable of fighting in the future.

This famous weapon was made of the native English Yew tree, And the act of drawing the longbow was known as "plucking the yew" (or "pluck yew").

Much to the bewilderment of the French, the English won a major upset and began mocking the French by waving their middle fingers at the defeated French, saying, "See, we can still pluck yew!

"PLUCK YEW!"

Since 'pluck yew' is rather difficult to say, the difficult consonant cluster at the beginning has gradually changed to a labiodental fricative 'F', and thus the words often used in conjunction with the one-finger-salute!

It is also because of the pheasant feathers on the arrows Used with the longbow that the symbolic gesture is known As "giving the bird."

procrastination's the name of the game!

i have just thoses 2 last assignment-research-whatchamacalits to finish, but they stobbornly will not let me finish them. or i will not let me finish them. but i can gleefully edit blogs, write my friends papers and eat cereal and sleep in class. grrr. and they're overdue *wails* most people have overdue papers, but not of such epic proportions!

*breathes*

back to being a stressed schoolgirl. they will be in tomorrow. i will eat/sleep/breathe my papers and the exams for the next 35 days so help me God.

its interesting to see the things in life that you've rejected before. like hardwork, and hardplay.

that's my kinda-sorta philosophy in life right now i guess. hardwork and hardplay. i used to be so hung up in the details, now i'm not so sure. like i want independance, but i also want refuge. i want a hand to hold not a leash. and i guess somewhere along the line i forgot that, cuz i'm famous for my about-turns and mood swings and not-ever-really-knowing what's going on in my lifeness.

this blogspace has been quiet. it's not good-quiet or bad-quiet, just introspective-quiet. the exams, the assignments, the learning to get over it, and the learning to deal with life. i can't believe the amount of overrated work that uni-life brings, but i also can't believe that it seems like a 1000 pound stress. one day i'll sit back and laugh at it all, but until then... my traditional refuge in the kitchen and in ben somehow has transformed into... a refuge in kitchen and ben? not in the traditional sense anymore tho.

i've learnt alot in the past 145 days. brisbane has opened my eyes and told me how naive i am, and also how strong i can be. it's like an extreme quarter-life crisis; applications, organisations, self-government and learning that double standards will always exist, but as long as you mesh your own double standards with the world's, everything comes out even. it's like durian, it's so strong and so sweet, no everyone can handle it.

it's been an interesting journey. i thank in particular that i'm blessed by people who love me, God who's patient, a world that's gentle sometimes, and a spring that's taught me that hope is eternal. a hope for a better future/life/grade/whatever, but also a hope for a hope.

salute justina!

Your Inner Child Is Surprised
You see many things through the eyes of a child.
Meaning, you're rarely cynical or jaded.
You cherish all of the details in life.
Easily fascinated, you enjoy experiencing new things.

How Is Your Inner Child?

i'm a little child with a woman inside. wooot.

does anyone remember irc? back in the days of pagers and primary school? (no offense to anyone who still uses irc, or pagers, it's just that at the ripe old age of 20, it seems like forever ago)

irc changed my life =) and in 3 days. it's given me that which i love the most, and it's given me the metaphor for my life right now. *insert aspect of life* slaps you with a big smelly fish.

but life is good and sweet and brightness and light.

confused? *blinks* so am i.

gym is good. pain is good. and temporary.
pain is temporary, glory is forever.
